Americans Come Clean on Handwashing, Germs and Restrooms

According to the Healthy Hand Washing Survey conducted by Bradley Corp., Americans use various techniques to avoid touching things and coming into contact with germs in a public restroom.

A national survey finds that Americans are hit-or-miss about washing their hands after using a public restroom. And, men seem to be less concerned about washing up than women. The results are part of the Healthy Hand Washing Survey conducted by Bradley Corporation, a manufacturer of commercial plumbing fixtures, washroom accessories, partition cubicles, emergency fixtures and solid plastic lockers.

When asked about their handwashing habits, just 66 percent of Americans say they always wash up after using a public restroom – despite the fact that 92 percent believe it's important to wash their hands after a visit. Hand washing might also be considered a "she said, he said" scenario. Nearly 75 percent of women say they always wash up versus 59 percent of men who claim they always do.

And why don't men wash up?  read more

Putting Children First: Excel Dryer and Green Apple

In 2014, Excel Dryer partnered with the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to release the custom-covered Green Apple XLERATOR®.

A portion of all Green Apple XLERATOR® proceeds go back to the Center’s Green Apple initiative to put all students in safe, sustainable schools where they can not only learn, but thrive.

A quarter of all Americans walk through the doors of a school every day. Yet instead of walking into places of opportunity, millions enter buildings where the air they breathe is filled with toxins and mold, where classrooms are poorly lit and overcrowded and where resources are limited and outdated. Too many of our children are learning in buildings that are compromising their health and ability to succeed. Our kids deserve better.

New Energy Efficiency Requirements for Federal Buildings

Facilities will help cut government GHG emissions by 40%

As part of his ongoing efforts to mitigate the threat of climate change, President Obama has issued an executive order that will allow the federal government to lead by example, improving energy efficiency in facilities and increasing the amount of power drawn from renewable sources.

The requirements are expected to reduce the government’s GHG emissions by 40% over the next decade compared to 2008 levels, saving taxpayers up to $18 billion in energy costs.

The executive order directs federal agencies to ensure that 25% of their electric and thermal energy consumption is coming from clean sources by 2025. The government’s 360,000 buildings will have new goals as well, being required to cut energy use by 2.5% per year and water intensity by 2% from 2015 until 2025.

“Since buildings account for 98% of GSA’s operational greenhouse gas emissions, a large part of achieving this goal will require GSA to increase its use of energy savings performance contracts and other retrofitting strategies to make federal buildings more energy efficient,” says Denise Turner Roth, GSA acting administrator.
