The Impact of Local Law 1 of 2013 and Resolution #1739-2013 on M/WBE Firms is Tremendous!

Governor Cuomo is a solid supporter of Women and Minority Owned Businesses – M/WBE’s.  There is one particular Law and one Resolution that is especially impactful in New York City.  These mandates benefit both the end user and the individual New York City/State Certified M/WBE firm.

Local Law 1 of 2013 dictates a goal of 20% for M/WBE businesses in New York State for those projects that are publicly funded.  The goal stands for any publicly funded New York State facility or institution including state colleges, public libraries, fire and police departments, or state government buildings.

Resolution #1739-2013 is even more impactful for New York City Certified small business M/WBE firms.
The resolution raises the discretionary funding limit from $5,000 to $20,000.  This basically means that any publicly funded project in a New York City/State institution (SUNY, public library, fire department, police department, state facility, DMV, etc.) can be purchased from a qualified M/WBE firm without a lengthy and complicated bid process as long as the project amount is below $20,000.  The New York City Council passed this resolution here:  http://legistar.council.nyc.gov/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=1419683&GUID=912624DF-7771-4D04-BF14-6E4BF325E095&Options=&Search=

There is a complete listing of all New York State Certified M/WBE firms at this New York State official site:  https://ny.newnycontracts.com/FrontEnd/VendorSearchPublic.asp  There are many different ways to search for a NYS certified M/WBE on this site.
